I purchased a pair of breeding Convict cichlids, They where both calm and well mannered towards other fish in the tank, slowley the female began to blossom and her colours became very vivid , They both went around the tank digging verious pits for nusery,s . Then 2 days ago she layed her eggs onto a piece of bogwood , and ever since both parents have protected the site 24hrs a day , As of the 19/05/2011 they r both showing promising behaviour and it looks like they will go on to be great parents, Convivt are notorious for being fantastic parents , they will look after the eggs , then they will protect they fry in small dug out nurseries, the fry will tend to leave the nest and the parents will gather them up in their mouths and place them back where they should be , as while they are at this size they could easily be eaten by the other tank mates,Then they will over the next month grow to a size if 1-2cm when they will become more adventurous , at this stage the male will confuse them as potential pray and will possibly eat them ,I have a nursery tank at the ready , so i can transfer them , enabling me to grow them to a saleable size,,,
